Grand Cherokee Tranny ?s

Anyone know of any common tranny problems of a 2002 Grand Cherokee? My lil brothers tranny just started to quit on him today. The fluid is foaming, but no burnt smell or over heating. Kind of odd that it just started today and not a gradually developing problem. He has almost no forward gear, reverse is fine.
Any thoughts? Clogged filter...broken internal component....just worn clutches?

thats what i was thinkin'...but the fluid wouldn't get foamy from a bad pump??? or would it?

means its sucking air, so if you have the proper level of fluid in there, most likely the rubber o ring where the pick up tube meets the pump is bad and is sucking some air
