The man in the purple and orange truck delivered my new sneakers today... now I need to get them mounted & balanced.

I have been using Sam's Club, since they were the cheapest... $9.50/tire for a "Seasonal Change".

As of last month, the Club on West Broad no longer will mount & balance tires not purchased from them.

I took them to Dyke Tire at Broad and Skipwith this afternoon and they refused to install them.

Why, you ask?

Well, according to them, because they are "re-caps".

They also told me the sidewalls were "compromised" and they were "not safe" to work on.

:rolleyes_

Yes, they are retreads. From a well known, and reputable dealer.

The tires are 31 x 10.50 x 15 AT-B's (think BFG-AT). Heck, they are even on BFG-AT casings!

And at $75 per tire, hard to beat price wise for the yard truck.

Anyone have someone in the area that they have worked with to get tires purchased elsewhere mounted?

That is not going to give me a hard time about DOT APPROVED tires?

Thanks.

Sears out here at Chesterfield Town Center mounted and balanced a set of 35's for Mack that he got elsewhere.

Dyke is retarded then. Any mom and pop place will do it for you. Bobbys auto repair about 100 feet from my house does all of mine. Charges me about $10 a tire, and he was able to get my old 37s on as well.

What I thought too.

And the guy was a dick when he called me.

I dropped the truck off, told him the tires were in the bed.

It was +/- 3pm.

He asked me if I "expected them done today"? I said yes, I do... and asked him to call me when they were done.

His reply was "Well, we'll see what we can do..."

I left with my wife to go shop for new living room furniture. We were not gone more than fifteen minutes when my cell phone rang...

His opening line was "Yeah, Mr. Colfax, you can come pick up that truck... we are not gonna mount those tires..."

Whatever.

I hate to do it, but I am prolly gonna take the rims off the truck and take them to 4WD Specialty on Broad St on Monday.

He did my 33's for the YJ while I waited and charged me +/- $12.50/tire.

The continuing saga...

Called WallyWorld at Brook Rd this morning... asked them if they mounted tires purchased elsewhere.

Sure, no problem, $3.50 each + $2.00 for valve stems and $1.50 to dispose of the old ones.

Got there at 0930, got the work order entered at 0948.

At 1254 they were just re-installing the tires.

And still had to torque, then re-torque the lugnuts.

Three-and-a-half hours to mount and balance four tires.

Hmmph.
