Snip from Virginia4x4.org

Okay, w/ out writing the whole letter down (sorry it's cold outside) The jist of it is that they are looking at who manages the second mtn road. I'm assuming either it's a forest road or maybe could be turned into a private sub. division road and closed or something like that. Having said that they are taking public comment on the topic, and all comments need to be postmarked w/in 30 days of the release of the publication (which everytime I try to search for the website has problems) the publication was released on January 20,, 2007.

The address is:
North River Ranger District
401 Oakwood Drive
Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Phone# (540)432-8274
Fax# (540) 432-1917

Email: (mailto:comments-southern-georgewashington-jefferson-northriver@fs.fed.us)

The main thing is that no matter how you contact them they need to be able to identify you. i.e. They need your full name, signature, address, telephone#, or what ever means that someone could contact you, or find out who you are. If they can't do that they are gonna toss whatever you have to say. And I would suggest coming up w/ more than "don't close the trail". Try to come up w/ some substance.

"The flyer had to do with the question of the gate on Second Mtn. and the
question of whether we should allow traffic to travel through the
subdivision. Some in the subdivision don't mind, others don't want it.
Yes, they already had that meeting, our roads manager (Mark Healey) and
District Ranger (Elwood Burge) held a meeting on the matter. As we
expected, opinion was divided. Elwood will continue to study the issue
before deciding what to do there. Where I come in is on the ATV trail (Rocky run)
itself as I am the recreation manager. Elwood also has some decisions
to make on that- whether to reopen the Rocky Run Trailhead access, whether
to put on a seasonal closure, etc. Anyway, I think you can look for some
decisions this year. One person you may want to contact for info. and
to provide assistance is Garth Hinz (who I will try and call tomorrow) with the American Motorcycle Assoc. You may know him. He is submitting a grant proposal to improve Rocky Run
ATV trail." Quoted from an e-mail w/ Terry Slater

"we have scoped future travel management of the 2nd Mountain Road (500 feet- does not include the trail system). Comment period has closed, and we will be analyzing the comments and issues over the next several months, and hope to make a decision in early summer." Quoted from an e-mail that Elwood Burge added to the previous.

If you still haven't added you 2 cents please do it quick. He told me to call Elwood, but my evening got a lill' hectic. Opening Rocky run would be awesome, however it doesn't really benefit us anyway. That said if something comes of this it does set a president for things to come in the future and how to achieve those tasks.
